I dropped off my infant daughter who recently came out as trans in listowel and never went back because I want her to suffer (not because she is trans)(edited)
Lovely Listowel looking especially lovely last Thursday.
I love pottering around Listowel, getting some jobs done, window shopping, reading, coffee. It's got this lovely vibe about it and great people, craic and history.

hello listowelers i feel like you all deserve an explanation as to what has happened these past few days.
a couple days ago, a catholic priest in listowel held a mass in which he publicly condemned such things as contraception, abortions, and homosexuality. this of course brought the cowards out of the woodwork who said hey! this guy said its bad, let him speak, free speech et cetera. the last thing ireland needs is more hatred. HOWEVER. THERE IS A SHINING LIGHT.

FROM CIARA, WHO IS A RESIDENT OF LISTOWEL, claims that a lot of auld listowel grannies got up and left the mass. like these crumblies just stood up and got outta there during his rant

nobody learns a language by being forced to read old poetry not in touch with the modern generation, nobody learns a language by slogging through really mid short films and being forced to drill for exams or memorising paragraphs or whatever
you learn a language through... a love for it. you think "wow this sounds cool" or you think "if I spoke this language I could do..."
you learn a language to talk to friends and family, to interact with foreign media without a translation barrier, you learn a language to open yourself up to the possibility of new culture, history, science, and art that was inaccessible for you before, you learn a language to fortify your fucking brain against neurodegenerative diseases (studies have proven this)

many school children misdirect their distaste towards irish
19:21
when they are not learning Irish
19:21
they are learning a shell of what it used to be through an outdated and uncaring school system

None was thought in school and it's so hard to find resources
i beat my score on the conjugation practice website thingy too, it makes you conjugate verbs and adjective based on different conditions and if you get one wrong you reset to 0
e.g. there are people who end up more hung up on their duolingo streaks than actually learning

but finding the right balance is godlike

monke brain loves seeing tangible progress

to be clear i dont think the duolingo streaks are a bad idea per se you just see some people getting more focused on maintaining The Arbitrary Number than doing actual practice
i answered someone's question in a japanese server and it got a thumbs up react from a native speaker so as far as i'm aware i can go collect a fat severance check and retire to the carribbean and ball out for the rest of my days
my friend wants me to come to norway sometime in the summer for a visit so it's time to start grinding a new branch on my hyperpolyglot gigachad alpha female tree
